Global Voting System

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

A new video for the Global Voting System has been released… check it out:

The Global Voting System is a proposal for a protocol to specify how to transfer voting data around the world… enabling a world of democracy.  As mentioned in a previous blog post, the GVS was submitted to Google’s Project 10 to the 100th contest looking for new, revolutionary ideas, and the GVS definitely is one.

Imagine if we could take the power away from politicians, governments, and lobbyists, and shift if into the hands of every single person.  This is what the GVS could do for us… empowering every one of us and letting the united voice of humanity be heard.

Peace One Day – September 21

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Peace One Day – The UN sanctioned International Day of Peace will be here on Monday, September 21.  It is a day for global cease fires… a day of non-violence to promote peace and ease humanitarian efforts.

Many big name people have been involved in this inspirational project: Kofi Annan, The Dalai Llama, Jude Law, Angelina Jolie to name a few.  All around the world, 100′s of millions of people will be celebrating this day… and the number is growing every year.  You should too.

Visist peaceoneday.org to see what events are going in your area that you can take part in.   Or, you can even organize your own event, even if it is just for friends and family.

Stop Hating

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

There is too much hate in our world… it spreads like a disease through the social consciousness.   People see others acting with hateful intentions, and it only encourages them to express themselves in a similar fashion.

Stop the hating… nothing positive comes from it.

For one, time spend hating doesn’t do any good.  Hating is wasted time and energy.  It doesn’t help you achieve anything, other than reciprocating the hate that you’ve felt in your own life.  Take a stand against hate and see that you don’t pay it forward.

Look inside yourself for love.  Nurture love instead of feeding the troll of hate that lives inside you.  The more love you give out, the more you will get back.  And, the less hate you put out, the less you will get back, meaning the less hate you will have in your life.

Secondly, we are all extensions of the same whole.  Despite how it may seem at times from our human perspective, we are all interconnected.  We are all part of the phenomenon of life, all descendants of the same first cells, and we all share a common bond.   Hating others is the same as hating yourself… the hate that you put out only comes back to yourself.

tl:dnr – stop hating yourself and stop hating others

Peace One Day

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

What are you doing September 21st?  How about joining the rest of the world in a day of peace?

Peace One Day is an organization dedicated to uniting the world, if only for one day, to show how much we can come together as a species. By “working to manifest an annual day of global unity; a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known”, Peace One Day hopes to promote peace, as well as attain the awesome goal of reaching 3 billion people with the message of Peace One Day by 2012.

September 21 is a day to recognize just how powerful we can be, when we work together.  Studies have shown how group meditation – large groups concentrating on peace – can actually manifest peace in the world (see a link here).  In these studies, they had about 7000 people meditating for peace.  Imagine the peace we could create with a million, or how about the 3 Billion that Peace One Day aspires to…  it would be incredible!

Check out the following videos, which put forth a beautiful message of hope for peace.

Google’s Project 10 to the 100th

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Google’s Project 10 to the 100th is a philanthropic project put forth by the Internet powerhouse Google. This project is a “call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible”. Watch the video below for more info or click here to read about it.

In October of last year, they opened up for submissions for ideas, and they received over 150,000 entries! The deadline for submissions has now passed.

Now, they are faced with the task of sorting through all of these submissions to pick the top 100. From these top 100, they will open up voting to the public, letting us pick the top 25. From these top 25 ideas, they will then pick the top 5. The top 5 will be splitting the prize of $10,000,000, which will be used to jumpstart the projects.

While it has taken them way longer than they initially hoped to pick their finalists, this project is still a great endeavour. What kind of projects have they received… what kind of great ideas and world changing events will arise because of this project… only time will tell.

Here at u4Ya.ca, the idea we put forth is the Global Voting System, which is a protocol for a world wide voting network, that runs off of existing infrastructure to promote global democracy.  It would be awesome if we were picked as one of the finalists, to really help jumpstart this ambitious project and truly get the ball rolling.
