SOPA has been squashed, ACTA might be on its final act, and Bill C-30 is now under close surveillance, but the battle for an uncensored Internet rages on.
Enter the Free Internet Act, designed to “promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation by preventing the restriction of liberty and preventing the means of censorship.”
Drafted by members of the online community Reddit, and open to revisions by anyone, this crowd-sourced bill “will allow internet users to browse freely without any means of censorship and guarantee that users have the right to free speech and to free knowledge.”
The Internet remains poised to launch humanity into a new era of peace, cooperation, and prosperity by revealing our common humanity and showing us that wars only hurt ourselves. But this will only happen if we are able to prevent restrictions on the free flow of information.
This is why it is so imperative that we fight tooth and nail against the forces seeking to strip humankind of this vital democratizing tool known as the Internet. Otherwise, the great social uprising which is already underway might be stifled, and our already challenging struggle towards a brighter future will be that much harder.
