USA’s Secret Prisons

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

One more American torture facility has been uncovered, this time in Poland. Under backlash from the US Government, prominent Poles have revealed damning details of a prison run by the CIA on Polish soil.

A similar CIA ‘interrogation’ program, unmasked in 2009, was being held at an exclusive horseback riding academy in Lithuania. Inmates, suspected of harboring violent intent against the United States, were subjected to various forms of torture including “sleep deprivation, forced standing, painful stress positions.”

Just to be clear, these clandestine prisons have zero public oversight. Most Americans have no knowledge of said places, nor would they authorize such atrocities were it up to them. (more…)

Tories: Reverse Robin Hoods

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Take from the poor, give to the rich. Once again, the Conservative’s true agenda is shining through in the 2012 federal budget.

Science spending is getting slashed. The environment is taking a hit, and social services are being dropped. Pensions are being pilfered (unless your a Member of Parliament). Even our cherished CBC is taking a blow, despite promises to the contrary.

Do you know what’s not getting touched? (more…)

DRACO Kills All Viruses

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

From the ‘Future is Going to Be AMAZING!’ files: MIT scientists have developed a broad spectrum cure for not just one type of virus, but all viruses.

A drug called DRACO, which stands for Double-stranded RNA Activated Caspase Oligomerizer, works by specifically impeding the replication process used by every virus.

Awesome. If tests pan out, we could have a solution for AIDS, Hepatitis, and other deadly diseases within a decade.

It’s news like this that reaffirms my belief that humankind stands on the brink of a fantastic new world… a global civilization that has the tools to provide the basic needs for every human, and the means to cure any sickness.

This fantastic future is not centuries away. It is already happening, right now. And the more it does happen, the more of us will awaken to be overwhelmed with the hope and optimism so imperative for creating a lasting peace on earth.

World peace is coming. As long as we can avoid extinction or enslavement, it will be here within our lifetimes.

Misplaced Muslim Mistrust

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

A poll came out this week showing more than half of Canadians believe Muslims to be untrustworthy, scoring far worse than any other group.

What is up with that, Canada? (more…)

Canada to Ditch Troubled F-35s?

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Canadian’s are facing austerity cuts across the board – wage freezes, slashed funding, and major reforms to pensions – yet the Conservatives seem hellbent on acquiring some fancy new planes for $9 billion. Or is it $10 billion now, or more?

Where are their priorities? With the pressing needs of Canadians, or with getting their kickbacks from the Defense Industry?

As CBC revealed yesterday, these jets don’t even meet the necessary requirements for jets in the Great White North. Way to drop the ball, Tories. (more…)

Israel and Human Rights – Parting Ways

Monday, March 26th, 2012

You know how when you catch a liar in a lie, they overreact and get all angry and hostile? That’s pretty much what the State of Israel has just done.

The United Nations human rights council decided to establish an international investigation into abuses committed in the West Bank settlements. And in response, Israel has severed all ties with that branch of the UN.

Oh, what… afraid that your horrendous, ongoing atrocities will be exposed? Too bad. The world is waking up, no matter how hard you try and hide. (more…)

Don’t Attack Iran! – World

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

The beautiful ‘Israel Loves Iran’ campaign is reaching new heights, nearing close to 40,000 likes on their Facebook page, and raising almost $20,000 since its inception just two weeks ago. Remarkable!

Meanwhile, across the UK, members of the ‘Stop the War Coalition’ organized a day of action to speak out against war with the Persian nation. More great stuff!

Demonstrations like these are just awesome to see. Massive outpourings of anti-war sentiments are a key ingredient for eliminating earth’s major armed conflicts. The more they happen, the sooner we can build a lasting peace on earth.

Just picture huge rallies, numbering in the millions, across Israel and America, pressuring their governments to avoid war at all costs. And then imagine if Iranians were doing the same thing, at the same time. Governments on both sides would have no choice but to take notice.

This is precisely why humankind is on the verge of realizing world peace. The Internet is sparking a great awakening, exposing our common humanity and breaking down the fear and ignorance so integral for organizing wars.

A few more years, and our world will be so interconnected, so united, that pro-war propaganda and rhetoric will be useless in the face of the global community bonds we have formed.

Then, it will be just a matter of systematically dismantling the institutions of war, and reallocating those precious resources to where they should have been all along: constructively making the world a better place.

How to Survive Police Interrogations

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

With more and more activists finding themselves detained or arrested by democracy-crushing law enforcement, it’s worth spending a few minutes with fast-talking and highly entertaining former Defense Attorney and current Law Professor James Duane, offering us some fine advice on surviving interrogations with police personnel.

In short, Duane’s words of wisdom are:

Never, ever talk to police. No matter what. It will never help you.

Massive Marches in Montreal

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Wow! Did you see the footage coming out of Montreal this week? Hundreds of thousands of protesters came out against proposed tuition hikes, flooding the streets and bringing the city to a standstill.

Amazing. Apparently Canadians can be mobilized to march. All it takes is the right catalyst, like a tax hike or a Tim Hortons coffee shortage.

I’m truly inspired to know that a whole new generation are experiencing firsthand how to exercise their political voice, and just how incredible it feels to do so.

Democracy in action. Well done, Quebecers!

Evolving Towards Peace

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

At this very moment, wars are ravaging our world, just like they have done since the dawn of human civilization. Like a festering wound, so ingrained has armed conflict become that to espouse the hope of healing can be met with ridicule and scorn.

But, despite the prevalent pessimistic prophecies, wars are fast going obsolete. Researchers, like Dr. Steven Pinker, have shown that people alive today enjoy the most peaceful world we’ve ever had. Better yet, an internet enabled social revolution is building bridges and resolving conflicts faster than ever before, strengthening our burgeoning global society. (more…)
