Americans Shamed in Afghanistan, Once Again

Graphic images have surfaced showing American soldiers posing with dead Afghan body parts. Disgusting and disgraceful, not to mention dangerous, considering how volatile the Afghanistan situation already is, what with the burned Korans and marines urinating on corpses.

U.S. Secretary Of Defense Leon Panetta was quick to apologize, calling the behavior “foolish” and “unacceptable.”

Panetta also tried to justify the photos, saying “This is war, and I know war is ugly, and is violent. And I know young people sometimes caught up in the moment make some very foolish decisions.”

Yeah, they do. But that won’t stop him and others from arming these young, potentially foolish people and setting them loose upon foreign nations.

Most alarming is that these videos and images of marines and soldiers desecrating the dead are just the tip of the iceberg. No doubt, under the fog of war, occurrences like these happen every single day whether documented or not.

And the reason why they keep happening? Because war itself is wrong. Members of the armed forces know this, if only subconsciously, which is why they act out as they do. The whole system is wrong, starting with the very top all the way down. So no matter what soldiers do, seeing how they are already in the wrong, any further wrongdoings don’t really matter.

The conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other US-led campaigns are not about security, justice, freedom or democracy. They are simply business decisions made to further enrich corporations and individuals entrenched in the lucrative Military Industrial Complex.

It’s only a matter of time until the whole world wakes up to this reality, and finally comes together to forever banish the blight of war off the face of the earth.
