Automated Greenhouses – Soon to be a Reality!

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Picture a greenhouse that continually produces food all by itself, with little to no human interaction. This autonomous mechanical marvel – built from low cost materials and powered by renewable energy – could truly mean a sustainable source of fresh food all year round.

Sound too good to be true? Well, it is right now. But not for much longer. Automated greenhouses are fast becoming a reality, and these seemingly magic structures will give humankind a permanent solution to world hunger.

Consider the Horto Domi project, which aims to take the labor out of running a garden at home. Their working prototype can regulate soil and atmosphere conditions, runs on the economical Arduino micro-computer, and can be monitored remotely via web App.

So it’s not yet a magical box. But over the coming years, teams will hash out the remaining pieces of the puzzle. Atmospheric water collectors will provide all the fresh water needed to irrigate the crops. Wind and solar will provide the necessary energy to heat and run the system. The structure itself will be built from some kind of abundant material, shaped into whatever form works best. And all that will be left is to figure out how to mechanize the entire crop cycle safely and effectively.

The implications of this will be astounding! No one will be starving anywhere on the planet. Incredible, right?

If you think about all the wars and chaos in our world, so much of it is rooted directly in poverty. People in desperate situations are willing to do desperate things. When no mouth goes hungry, when everyone’s needs are met, there won’t be this fundamental drive towards violent conflict.

Automated greenhouses – and the incredible boon they’ll offer- give us one more reason to believe that world peace is just around the corner.

Oneness as a Path to Peace

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

By Guest Contributor Lexi Soulios

It used to be much easier for humans to see ourselves as independent, isolated, and separate. Now with modern technology like the Internet and recent scientific discoveries in the field of quantum physics, for example, it’s near impossible to live in the delusion that we are alone, unaffected by the plights and actions of others, or that our own behavior has no impact on the world around us.

For those of us who truly long for peace on earth, we need to begin actively living the realization of Oneness – of interconnection with everyone and everything – in our lives. This is the only way we can transcend the greed, violence and fear that arise naturally from the belief in separation and that have pervaded our planet.

We can start living the realization of Oneness by making it an absolute priority to cultivate peace in our own hearts and minds, to think and act in ways that increase the sense of love and harmony in our homes, families, communities and workplaces. This is so important because not only does it give us a stable base from which to interact with others, but when our own lives are peace-filled, we positively influence the vibrations of the larger world beyond us.

Additionally, if we truly want to create a peaceful existence on this planet, we must aim for peace beyond just our generation. We need to make a legacy of peace our goal, so that our political and economic systems are set up in such a way that peace will continue for our children, our grandchildren and beyond.

In order to do this, no one can be left behind. We are all connected. If the children of one country are starving, dying of preventable diseases and lacking basic education, there will be unrest in the minds and hearts of us all.

Lasting peace requires us all to stand together. It requires us to take responsibility for our own well being and our own capacity to feel compassion for others. Lasting peace requires us to expand our viewpoint from that of a separated, isolated individual to that of a beingness which is inextricably woven into the large, mysterious, glorious whole.

The symbol of our movement is the Universal Flag. The organization strives to raise consciousness through media, social networking, education and various programs in order to help people remember Oneness for themselves. Learn more at: http://www.universalflag.com

Humanity Eradicates Another Disease

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Remember Smallpox? The vile pathogen responsible for seriously deforming those it did not kill? Yeah, that’s right… it’s the one which humankind cooperated to eradicate off the planet.

Well, there’s a new player in the field of viruses to be evicted from earth – Rinderpest! Rinderpest is an animal disease which infects hooved mammals, like cattle and pigs, and can wipe out entire herds.

But not anymore! BOOYA!!! Chalk up another victory for the hairless monkeys with the big brains!

VIDEO: The Power of Hope

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

(Once again, the thumbnail gods get a chuckle at my expense.)

You’ve probably heard that positive thinking is a vital part of personal success. Well, did you know that it also applies to the future of humankind?

————

When the present seems uncertain, hope is the force that shatters the shadows to unveil the path to a brighter future.

Positive thinking is a vital part of personal success, no matter how you choose to define it. In the pursuit of your goals, optimism will get you further than pessimism, every single time. When you believe in yourself and in good things, your mind can actually shape the future and draw your desires to you.

So don’t be afraid to express hope. Dare to dream, because you really can do anything.

Now this same effect, that which most influential humans will say has been an important part of their success, also applies to humankind on the global scale.

Just as a gloomy state of mind can hold you back, so too can clouds of pessimism hold back the entire planet. Without belief in a better world, without hoping that our actions will reap positive results, we won’t try, and the less of us willing to commit to creating a brighter future, the longer it will take for us to get there.

And we’re coming upon a crossroads in human history, where hope will play a key factor defining how the future of humankind plays out. Right now, it might seem like pessimism is prevailing, but this will change.

Technological progress is going to keep happening faster and faster, bringing unlimited potentials within our reach. This will spark a great awakening of the human spirit, and a revolution of optimism will overtake the minds of humankind.

Goals that might seem insurmountable right now, like building a peaceful planet and ending extreme poverty, will prove no real challenge when billions of individuals are chasing down a handful of common dreams with a heart full of hope.
