Major Supermarket Boycotts Goods from Israeli Settlements

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Yesterday’s post concerning Israel’s slow onslaught towards the Palestinian people concluded by noting that Israel’s atrocities would soon be ending. The world’s people are waking up to the injustice and are set to rise together and make Israel stop.

These words make for a warm, gushy sentiment, but without something concrete it’s hard to visualize exactly where I’m coming from.

As if answering my calls, one of the UK’s biggest grocers – The Co-Operative Group – announced it will be ending trade with any company that exports produce from illegal Israeli settlements. Wow!

The move was welcomed by Palestinian human rights campaigners saying it was the first time a supermarket anywhere in the West had taken such a position.

The Co-op was quick to point out how this wasn’t not a boycott against Israel as a whole, just a trade ban on anyone directly involved with Israel’s illegal settlements on Palestinian land.

It may be a small step, but it’s still moving forward. Money talks, and hitting businesses in the pocketbooks can be one of the most effective ways to enact political change.

As more of the international community follow suit and a significant chunk of Israel’s trade partners dry up, the State of Israel will have no choice but to capitulate to the will of the world’s people and finally cease their crimes against humanity.

Canadian Cops Crush Peaceful Protests

Friday, April 27th, 2012

MONTREAL: Seizing upon the distractions of a public protest, a handful of unruly miscreants take the opportunity to vandalize private property. In response, heavily armed police units crack down on the demonstration as a whole, claiming protection of the public good.

Worth Watching: Uprising 2012

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

Here’s the best call to action I’ve seen in a while: Uprising 2012 by the Freedom Information Network.

For a video like this to have a dramatic effect on the population it would have to be seen by millions and millions of people, like Kony 2012.

Still, humans are fast approaching a state ready for this to happen. Maybe not quite yet, but it won’t be long.

In less than 5 to 10 years, the world’s social consciousness will be prepped for radical ideas to sweep through, fostering upheavals to the status quo, enabling a wide-spread redistribution of power and a reposition of priorities.

When humanity awakens as a species, nothing will ever hold us back again.

Massive Marches in Montreal

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Wow! Did you see the footage coming out of Montreal this week? Hundreds of thousands of protesters came out against proposed tuition hikes, flooding the streets and bringing the city to a standstill.

Amazing. Apparently Canadians can be mobilized to march. All it takes is the right catalyst, like a tax hike or a Tim Hortons coffee shortage.

I’m truly inspired to know that a whole new generation are experiencing firsthand how to exercise their political voice, and just how incredible it feels to do so.

Democracy in action. Well done, Quebecers!

Evolving Towards Peace

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

At this very moment, wars are ravaging our world, just like they have done since the dawn of human civilization. Like a festering wound, so ingrained has armed conflict become that to espouse the hope of healing can be met with ridicule and scorn.

But, despite the prevalent pessimistic prophecies, wars are fast going obsolete. Researchers, like Dr. Steven Pinker, have shown that people alive today enjoy the most peaceful world we’ve ever had. Better yet, an internet enabled social revolution is building bridges and resolving conflicts faster than ever before, strengthening our burgeoning global society. (more…)

Barriers to Peace

Monday, March 19th, 2012

(Warning! Graphic video.)

“Doc, save his life.” chuckled an American soldier, standing over the dead and dying bodies of (reportedly) Iraqi militants, “Got a band-aid?” Disgusting. Not a single trace of honor in their behavior, which, incidentally, is a clear violation of the Geneva convention.

Equally repugnant are the related comments posted on the video’s right-wing site Liveleak: “awesome…die terrorist” “i would rather see a bus full… still nice do.” “Go to your Allah, rat bastards.” Senseless, hate-filled vitriol. (more…)

Occupy Spring

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Occupy is back! Not that it really went away… t’was just a mild hibernation over winter. Now, with Mother Nature being a little more hospitable, the uprising can switch back into high gear, louder and stronger than ever before!

To kick off this season’s social uprising, scores of protesters retook the famed Zuccotti park, aka Liberty Square, after which dozens were arrested. During the march up to the square, NYPD callously smashed a medics head into reinforced glass, breaking the glass and probably the medic’s skull (video above).

With greater numbers filling tighter-knit communities, weekly marches on Wall Street being planned,  and numerous Occupy-related events being held all the time, 2012 has all the makings for a glorious year of revolution!

Man, what an awesome time to be alive!

Extinct, Enslaved or Empowered?

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Navigating between extinction and enslavement, brave humankind could very well avoid both to reach compelling new heights.

Neils Bohr once said that prediction is very difficult, especially if it’s about the future. Despite the words of caution from the pioneering quantum physicist, I’d like to offer you my take on the three potential futures that we, as a species, are facing.

The first is extinction. This is where the human race is no more because we’ve wiped ourselves out in some foolish conflict or scientific mishap. Either that, or the universe conspires to eliminate us using it’s vast arsenal. There’s not a lot we can do to avoid this, apart from building peace instead of war.

The good news, despite what the mainstream media may want us to believe, is that humankind is actually the most peaceful we’ve ever been. (more…)

Arab Spring 2.0

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Amazing! Upwards of 200,000 people are in the streets of Bahrain in what could be the tiny kingdom’s largest protest rally ever!

The significance of this gathering cannot be understated, as it represents over 15% of the entire population.

Already the protests are proving effective. The government has now dropped charges on a few of the medics who were imprisoned for helping injured activists during earlier demonstrations.

What an inspirational sight! Can’t wait to see who will be next.
